1. Commitment

I want this website to work for everyone, including people who browse with a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or other assistive technology.

The reference is level AA of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2.

2. Conformance status

The website is built to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. Whenever the design or structure changes, I check it with an automated tool (axe) and with tests for keyboard use, magnification up to 400% and increased text spacing.

There has been no audit by an external body.

3. How it is built

  • Semantic structure, with one main heading per page, titled sections and marked regions (header, navigation, main content and footer) to jump between.
  • Everything works with the keyboard, with the focus always visible.
  • AA contrast for all text.
  • Touch targets of 44 pixels or more, except links within running text.
  • Alternative text on the images that say something. The illustration on the first screen is decorative and the grid of drawn pages in the thesis section is described in text.
  • A form with a label on every field and written error messages, announced to screen readers.
  • Pages that adapt to any width and to magnification up to 400%, without losing content.
  • The language of each page declared, with complete versions in Portuguese and English.

4. Known limitations

  • Motion is not switched off when the system asks for reduced motion. Entrances are short, happen only once and nothing flashes.
  • Scrolling with a mouse wheel or a touchpad is eased: the page glides to its destination. The keyboard, the scrollbar and touch behave as in the browser and can be used instead.
  • Third-party pages the website links to, such as the Portuguese Electronic Complaints Book, are outside JV Studio’s control.

5. Reporting a barrier

To report a barrier on this website, or to ask for content in another format, an email to geral@jvstudio.pt, with the page concerned, is enough. I reply on the next working day.

The same hand, from request to launch.
