Web applications
Everyday work moves out of spreadsheets.
What moves out of the spreadsheets
Work tools that open in the browser, on computer and phone.
Approvals
Who asks, who approves and when, without email chains.
Inventory
What comes in, what goes out and what is missing, always up to date.
Calculations
The sums that now live in formulas, done the same way every time.
Planning
Rotas, tasks and deadlines in view of whoever needs them, with no versions going around.
What goes into every application
Access
One account per person, and each role sees and changes only what it should.
Record
Every change is kept, with who made it and when.
Today’s data
What lives in the spreadsheets moves inside, so nobody starts from zero.
How it works
Listen
I watch the task being done by the people who do it, in today’s spreadsheet.
Propose
What the first version solves, the timeline and the price, in writing.
Design and code
The first version reaches its users early: use settles things better than any meeting.
Stay
I adjust to what gets used, what gets avoided and what gets asked for, by the hour or by the job.
Questions
How does a web application differ from a website or a platform?
A web application is the work tool alone, for the people inside: it opens with an account and has no public page. A website is shown to visitors, and a platform adds the management of whatever comes in through it.
Is it worth replacing a spreadsheet that works?
If the spreadsheet works, it can stay. Replacing it with a web application is worth it when several people edit it at once, when a formula error costs money or when someone new needs days to understand it.
Does the web application work on the phone, away from the office?
The web application works on the phone: each screen is designed for it at the same time as for the computer, for whoever is in a warehouse, out on a job or on the road. Installing it on the home screen or using it offline depends on the project.
Who shows people how to use the web application?
I show everyone who will use the web application how it works, before launch. A written guide also stays behind for anyone who joins later.
Can a web application start with one part?
Yes, and it is the best way: the first version handles only the task that costs the most time today, and the rest comes in part by part, as use shows what is needed.
How much does a web application cost?
There are no set prices. A web application’s price depends on how many tasks the first version handles, how many roles use it and what data comes over from the spreadsheets. Payment is for the project, with no per-person licence.
A project starts with an email.
The type of project, a name and an email are enough. I reply personally on the next working day.
